Urgent Fruit Recall Issued for Yellow and White Peaches Over Listeria Risk

Consumers are warned to discard specific Moonlight and Kroger branded peaches due to potential contamination with harmful bacteria.

A sweeping food recall is now in effect for fresh yellow and white peaches sold at major retailers nationwide.

The urgent action was prompted by the discovery of potential contamination from Listeria monocytogenes at a packing facility.

This is a serious food safety alert, as the bacteria can cause significant illness.

The fruit recall specifically targets peaches sold under the Moonlight and Kroger brand names between September 16 and October 29.

Health officials are urging anyone who purchased these brands of peaches to immediately check their refrigerators and fruit bowls.

Although no illnesses have been reported to date, the risk is considered serious.

Under no circumstances should these potentially affected peaches be consumed.

Consumers are strongly advised to either throw the fruit away or return it to the store of purchase for a refund.

Listeria infection can cause symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, nausea, and abdominal pain.

The danger is especially pronounced for pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

This recall is a critical reminder for families to stay informed about public health warnings concerning fresh produce.

What is Listeria?

Listeria is a harmful bacterium that can be found in soil and water and can contaminate food during harvesting or processing. Unlike many other bacteria, it can grow even in the cold temperatures of a refrigerator.

Which peach brands are included in the recall?

The current fruit recall affects conventionally grown yellow and white peaches sold under the Moonlight brand and yellow peaches sold under the Kroger brand. Products labeled as organic are not included.

What should I do if I bought these peaches?

Do not eat them. The official guidance is to dispose of the peaches immediately or return them to the store where you bought them.
