Ford recall roundup: Mustang Mach-E owners may need software updates for door-latch and camera issues

Ford has issued safety recalls affecting the Mustang Mach-E, including one that could leave rear-seat passengers unable to exit in certain situations and another tied to a rearview camera malfunction. Both fixes are software-based, and at least one can be delivered over the air. AP News

The Buzz (what’s happening)

Recall 1: Door-latch software issue (2021–2025 Mach-E)
Ford is recalling about 197,432 Mustang Mach-E vehicles because a software problem can cause the rear doors to remain locked after the driver or front passenger exits and closes the door—raising the risk that a rear-seat passenger (including children) could become trapped.

Recall 2: Rearview camera malfunction (includes 2021–2023 Mach-E among many Ford/Lincoln models)
Ford is also recalling over 1 million vehicles (1,075,299) for a software error that may cause the rearview camera image to freeze, delay, or fail to display. The Mach-E is included among the affected models listed. Reuters

Why it matters

  • A stuck or inaccessible rear door can become a serious safety hazard—especially in heat or emergencies.

  • A failing rearview camera can reduce visibility when backing up and increase crash risk.

What Mach-E owners should do now

  1. Check whether your specific vehicle is included using your VIN through Ford or NHTSA recall lookup tools.

  2. Watch for mailed notices (Ford said owner letters would begin in mid-June 2025 for the camera recall; Mach-E door-latch notices were scheduled for late June 2025).

  3. Install updates promptly if offered via over-the-air (OTA), or schedule a dealer appointment if required.

The details (what Ford says is wrong)

Door-latch recall: The issue centers on the Mach-E’s electronic door latch logic, where the rear doors may stay locked under certain conditions after a front occupant exits. Ford’s remedy is a software update, which Ford expected to be available later (reported as late September 2025).

Camera recall: A software error in the vehicle’s Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) can cause the rear camera display to malfunction. Ford’s fix is an OTA software update at no cost.

Key identifiers you can include in your summary

  • Mach-E door-latch recall reference: Ford recall number 25S65 (per reporting).

  • Camera recall: Ford planned OTA updates and phased owner letters (initial notice followed by remedy notice later).
