From Heartbreak to Hope: How Working Dogs For Warriors Heals California's Heroes |
The Inland Empire non-profit, born from a passion for service and reshaped by tragedy, provides life-saving service dogs to veterans and first responders, continuing a powerful local legacy. |
In the heart of Southern California, a mission to heal the hidden wounds of our nation's heroes continues, driven by a story of profound loss and unwavering resilience.
Working Dogs For Warriors, a California 501(c)(3) non profit organization, stands as a testament to the power of community and the unique bond between humans and canines.
The organization was born in 2016 from a simple, powerful vision shared by founders Michael Welsh, Daisy Welsh, and Daniel Gamboa: to train and donate service dogs to veterans and first responders grappling with the scars of their service.
But their journey was almost cut tragically short.
In a cruel twist of fate, the same month their non-profit status was approved by the State of California, the youngest founder, Daniel Gamboa, passed away.
The devastating loss shattered the founders' resolve, bringing their noble vision to a grinding halt.
It was in that moment of despair that the very community they sought to serve—veterans, first responders, and local supporters—rallied around the grieving family.
This outpouring of support reignited a fire stronger than before.
Fueled by a renewed purpose, Working Dogs For Warriors was reborn, dedicated to honoring Daniel's legacy of kindness and strength.
Today, the organization is a vital resource in the Inland Empire, recently honored as the 2024 Nonprofit of the Year for its district.
They provide meticulously trained service dogs that offer a lifeline to warriors facing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other service-related challenges.
Their work is more than just dog training; it's about rebuilding lives and restoring hope.
From their facility in Rancho Cucamonga, they create partnerships that help our bravest citizens navigate the path to healing, proving that from the deepest pain can grow the most profound purpose.
