Jeep Recall Sparks Fire Safety Warning for Over 320,000 Hybrid Owners |
Chrysler advises owners of specific Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee hybrids to park outdoors and halt charging immediately due to a faulty battery posing a significant fire risk. |
A massive Jeep Recall has put hundreds of thousands of local vehicle owners on high alert.
Chrysler, the parent company of Jeep, has officially recalled more than 320,000 of its popular plug-in hybrid models, citing a dangerous defect in the high-voltage battery system.
The recall specifically targets certain 2020–2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and 2022–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models.
The potential for the faulty battery to spontaneously catch fire has prompted an urgent warning from federal safety regulators.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued stark advice for owners: park these vehicles outside, away from homes and other structures, and immediately stop charging them.
This drastic measure aims to prevent potential property damage or injury until a permanent solution is found.
According to reports filed by the automaker, the company is aware of 19 fires and one injury potentially linked to this hazardous issue.
The core of the problem lies with the battery cells, supplied by Samsung SDI America, which may have separator damage that can lead to an internal failure and subsequent fire.
This is not the first time these models have faced fire-related recalls.
Officials confirmed that vehicles serviced under previous, similar recalls will still need to undergo the new, yet-to-be-developed remedy, as prior software fixes proved ineffective.
Stellantis, Chrysler's parent company, has acknowledged the issue and stated that a remedy is currently under development.
Owners are understandably concerned, left with vehicles they cannot safely charge or park in their own garages.
The situation has created significant anxiety for families who rely on these popular SUVs for daily transport.
Chrysler plans to mail interim notification letters to affected owners by December 2, 2025, with a second notice to follow once a final repair is available.
The official recall number is 68C, and owners seeking more information can contact Chrysler's customer service directly.
What is the Jeep Recall about?
Chrysler is recalling 320,065 Jeep Wrangler 4xe (2020-2025) and Grand Cherokee 4xe (2022-2026) plug-in hybrids. A faulty battery can overheat and cause a fire, even when the vehicle is parked or turned off.
What should I do if my vehicle is affected?
Immediately stop charging your vehicle. Park it outdoors and away from any buildings, structures, or other vehicles until the recall repair has been performed. This minimizes the risk of a fire spreading.
When will a fix be available?
A final remedy is still being developed by Chrysler. Owners will receive an initial notification letter by early December 2025 and a second letter once the repair, which will be free of charge, is ready. |
