Honda Announces Major Recall for Accord Hybrid Models Over Sudden Power Loss Defect

More than 256,000 popular Accord Hybrid vehicles are being recalled due to a critical software error that could cause the car to lose power while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

American Honda has issued a significant recall for over a quarter-million of its popular Accord Hybrid vehicles across the United States.

The action covers certain 2023 to 2025 model year sedans, affecting a staggering 256,603 cars.

Federal safety regulators flagged a critical software flaw within the vehicle's internal systems.

According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this error can cause the car’s integrated control module to unexpectedly reset during operation.

The potential consequence is a sudden and dangerous loss of drive power.

This malfunction dramatically increases the risk of a crash or injury for drivers and passengers.

The root of the problem has been traced back to improper software programming by a supplier.

Apparently, the supplier did not fully comprehend the component specifications, leading the software to misinterpret minor communication glitches as major CPU failures.

This misdiagnosis triggers an unintended system reset, effectively stalling the vehicle.

Honda stated it first became aware of the issue in March 2024 and launched an investigation.

As of early November, the company had received 832 warranty claims related to the defect.

Thankfully, no injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with this software error.

To fix the issue, Honda dealers will reprogram the faulty software at no cost to vehicle owners.

While official notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on January 5, 2026, a company spokesperson confirmed the updated software is already available at dealerships now.

Concerned owners of a 2023-2025 Accord Hybrid can immediately check if their specific vehicle is included in the recall.

Owners can contact Honda customer service or use the recall lookup tools available on the NHTSA website.

This is not the only recent recall for the automaker, which has faced other safety campaigns this year for different models.

This latest action underscores a growing trend of software-related issues in modern vehicles.

The recall is a crucial reminder for owners to stay informed about their vehicle's safety status.

Drivers can quickly check whether their vehicle is affected by visiting the NHTSA recall website or Honda’s recall search tool. Accord Hybrid owners included in the recall can also reach Honda customer support directly at 1-888-234-2138 for assistance.
