Hope is on the horizon for Altadena, a community still healing from the scars of recent wildfires.
The Walt Disney Company has announced a transformative $5 million pledge to reimagine the beloved Charles White Park.
The park, a cherished local landmark located between Lincoln and Fair Oaks Avenues, was left devastated by the destructive Eaton fire.
This is more than just a donation; it's a promise of renewal for a community that has lost so much.
Disney's legendary Imagineers are volunteering their creative talents to design a new space that officials hope will become a symbol of resilience and community spirit.
The park honors Charles White, an influential Black artist and teacher who lived in Altadena and dedicated his work to depicting the Black experience.
Plans for the reimagined park include nature-inspired playgrounds, a shaded splash pad, and a new amphitheater for local events.
A new sculpture will also be installed to celebrate White's powerful artistic legacy.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger praised the partnership, calling it a "gift of hope, joy, and healing" for families who have endured so much.
The project represents a deep commitment from Disney to help rebuild the Los Angeles area after the catastrophic wildfires.
Los Angeles County will host a special event on Friday, Nov. 21, where Supervisor Kathryn Barger and community partners will highlight new investments aimed at rebuilding and revitalizing Altadena’s parks.
Groundbreaking for the new Charles White Park is anticipated for March 2026, marking a new chapter for the Altadena community. |
