Roseville Pasta Company At Center of Deadly Nationwide Listeria Outbreak

Nate's Fine Foods has recalled nearly 245,000 pounds of pasta linked to at least four deaths and dozens of illnesses, triggering a cascade of secondary recalls at major grocery chains.

A local California company, Food Recall has become the epicenter of a tragic and sprawling food safety crisis.

Nate's Fine Foods of Roseville is now linked to a deadly Listeria outbreak that has resulted in at least four fatalities and sickened twenty other individuals across multiple states.

The sheer scale of the recall is staggering.

The Roseville-based company has been forced to recall nearly 245,000 pounds of its pre-cooked pasta products, including popular types like linguine, fettuccine, and penne.

Federal investigators from the Food and Drug Administration used genetic testing to connect the specific strain of Listeria monocytogenes from the outbreak directly to pasta produced at the Roseville facility.

This finding has had a massive ripple effect throughout the national food supply chain.

Because the pasta was sold as an ingredient to other food manufacturers, a wave of secondary recalls has been issued for heat-and-eat meals and deli salads.

Major grocery retailers have been impacted, with brands like Kroger, Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts Farmers Market pulling affected products from their shelves.

The situation represents a nightmare scenario for both the company and consumers.

Officials have warned the public not to consume any ready-made pasta meals or salads implicated in the recall.

Here are the recalls to date:

Sprouts Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad sold from the deli service counter or Grab & Go section with best-by dates from Oct. 10 to Oct. 29.

Giant Eagle smoked mozzarella pasta salad — expiration dates Sept. 30 through Oct. 7.

Kroger stores recalled deli bowtie and penne pasta salads — sold Aug. 29 through Oct. 2.

Scott & Jon’s Shrimp Scampi with Linguini Bowls 9.6-oz — best if used by dates of March 12 and 13 and March 17 and 21 2027.

Trader Joe’s Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettucine Alfredo 16-oz plastic tray packages with “best if used by” dates Sept. 20, Sept. 24, Sept. 27, Sept. 28, Oct. 1, Oct. 3, Oct. 5, Oct. 8 and Oct. 10.

Albertsons stores recalled store-made deli pasta salads — sell thru dates from Sept. 8 to Oct. 4.

Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce 12-oz. — best-by dates of Sept. 22, Sept. 24, and 25 and Sept. 29 to Oct. 1.

Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine 12.3-oz – best-by date of June 26, 2025, or prior; and 32.8-oz — best-by date of June 27, 2025, or prior.

Home Chef Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo 12.5-oz — best-by date of June 19 or prior.

The potential for widespread illness has put local families on high alert.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued an urgent warning, advising consumers not to eat any of the foods involved.

Several grocery chains have removed products containing Nate’s Fine Foods pasta from their shelves. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled items and instead throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund.

This developing situation serves as a critical reminder of the importance of food safety alerts and vigilance in our community.
